Nikuya-O deploys 1QR for check-out & customer engagement
Background
Nikuya-O, a food store specialises in Japanese Wagyu beef, launches new product packaging with highlights on its premier quality to boost sales.
Solution
Employing POS system with built-in QR code reader, the company uses 1QR for check-out and customer engagement.
Benefits
The food store enjoys using the same QR code for check-out, inventory management, food expiry date management, and sharing product information with consumers.
Background
Nikuya-O specializes in procuring Oita Wagyu beef from Japan, one of the best quality cattle breeds, at the same time scout internationally for premium food products to bring to HK. Equipped with professional equipment, expertise and a licensed food factory, the company runs retail outlets in Wanchai and online while supplying to merchants and caterers.
Shipped to Hong Kong by freight, the beef that Nikuya-O imported are of exceptional quality with certifications, processed locally in a safe and hygienic environment and procedure. To promote these features, the company included GS1 HK’s 2D barcode 1QR in their new product packaging to support management and facilitate promotion.
Solution – 1QR
Well aware of the benefits that technology brings to SME, Nikuya-O deployed barcode for check-out and inventory management since opening, and now further adopted 1QR to connect back-end operations with shop-front, by presenting customers detailed product information to enjoy multiple benefits and convenience.
Extended Management
Like many retailers, Nikuya-O has upgraded the POS (point-of-sale) system compatible with QR codes. Upon scanning expiring products, the system would give off alert to staff and customers, keeping customers in-the-know and prevent potential dispute or complaint. Staff are able to identify expiring products and offer discount for clearance and reduce wastage.
Growing Business
Customers can easily scan 1QR on the product packaging using smart phone to read detailed food information, for example the ranch location, Waygu certification, nutrient values, discount, or links to the company website to become member. This helps strengthen customers’ trust in products, engage potential members, connect online and offline sales, and encourage repeat purchase.
Instead of using multiple barcodes / QR codes on packaging for different applications, the company needs only single 1QR which is clear and convenient to customers and staff. Unlike normal QR code that links to a single website or URL, the GS1 Digital Link standard-based 1QR would link to different webpages or online databases based on the scanning devices – such as smartphones or cash register – offering multiple functions with one code.
Benefits
Nikuya-O uses GS1 HK’s 1QR to connect back- and front-end operation:
- A single QR code for multiple purposes like cashier, inventory, expiry date management, and offer all-round info
- Show different info at different times, e.g. discount during festival
- Bring in traffic for its web-store
We are committed to bringing the finest Wagyu flavours to our customers. 1QR allows our team to easily present the certificates of quality, origin, grading of our premium Wagyu, besides checkout and stock control, I think it’d help boost customer confidence and word-of-mouth promotion, effectively spreading the word about our products and philosophy. I believe 1QR is the first step to digitalisation for most SMEs in the retail industry.
